  • Where: 4th Street between Main and Liberty streets
    What: Light Up Louisville
    For its 32nd year, the city’s annual celebration launching the holiday season is expanding and moving to 4th Street, creating a four-block festival of lights set to music between the Galt House and Fourth Street Live.
    Light Up Louisville begins the day after Thanksgiving (Friday, Nov. 23), with the arrival of Santa Claus who will help illuminate downtown Louisville, followed by fireworks – all centered at new locations – starting from 4th and Main Streets all the way to Fourth Street Live!
    A new holiday activity that people will enjoy, is the addition of a ice skating rink in the heart of Fourth Street Live!. The rink will use a synthetic ice which will ensure its availability throughout the holidays even if outdoor temperatures stay above freezing.
    Other Light Up Louisville activities include the Run, Run Rudolph 5K race, which starts on 4th just south of Main. Participants will receive a long sleeve T-shirt. In addition, to the annual Winter Wonderland Holiday Parade. Parade units will be decorated in festive lights and will include bands, carolers, car clubs, floats, children’s groups and civic organizations.     Fee: The fee for skating is $5 an hour for adults, $3 for children under 18. Daily rates are $10, and a season pass is $40. Skates will be available to rent for $2.
    The race fee to participate is $25 with part of the proceeds benefitting the Louisville Metro Parks Foundation.

    As Louisville prepares to turn on the holiday lights for the new 40 Days and 40 Nights of Light Up Louisville, take a relaxing riverboat cruise on the Spirit of Jefferson and view the Louisville skyline before strolling along 4th Street and enjoying the seasonal festivities. (Sightseeing only)
    When: Boarding for the Spirit of Jefferson cruise begins at 2:30pm departs at 3:00pm and disembarks at 4:30pm.

    There are big doings on 4th Street for Light Up Louisville this year, and the event is extending 40 Days and 40 Nights to New Year's Eve! If you’ve watched Louisville’s holiday lights come on and still want to continue the party, then come on down to the Spirit of Jefferson and celebrate the night away. (Sightseeing only)
    When: Boarding for the Spirit of Jefferson cruise begins at 9:00pm departs at 9:30pm and disembarks at 11:00pm

    What: Feel lIke a Kid Again Day
    Visitors can enjoy the opening of our "Once Upon a Holiday" exhibit opening! From 4-8pm, adults are admitted to exhibits for the price of children's admission ($4) and children are admitted for free.

    What: Candelight Tours
    My Old Kentucky Home is decorated for Christmas in the antebellum style beautifully accented by the glow of candles everywhere. Guests have a guided tour with refreshments afterwards

    What: Holidays around the World
    "Holidays Around the World” is an annual, multi-cultural tree display that celebrates holiday traditions found throughout Louisville’s diverse communities. It ranges from trees decorated as they would be in countries that observe Christmas, to cultural displays showcasing other holidays observed around the globe throughout the year. This visually-stunning and educational exhibition, featuring 25 trees and displays, runs Thanksgiving through New Years.

    What: Once Upon a Holiday
    Visitors are transported around the world via life-size storybook pages that illustrate international winter festivals, including Kwanzaa, Yalda, Saint Lucia Day, New Years, Hanukkah, Diwali, Christmas and more! Games and activities that coincide with each holiday will be setup for the duration of the exhibit for visitors to play and create!

  • Where: Flame Run Glass Studio
    815 W. Market St., Louisville
    What: A Holiday "Hang Up" to Cherish: Ornament Making Open to the Public
    Be a glass artist for a day! Come join the artists at Flame Run to create your own personal and unique blown-glass ornament. Beginning on the Friday after Thanksgiving and continuing through a few days before Christmas, Flame Run hosts their Holiday Ornament Blow. Pick the color of your choice and enjoy the "hands on" technique of designing and actually blowing your own ornament.
    When: Novmeber 23 - December 23, by appointment only

    Fee: $40 to create one round ornament or $50 to create one snowman

    What: Holiday Trains Exhibit
    Have you ever seen an entire town inside a castle? Well, climb aboard and bring the kids (and grandkids too!) to Yew Dell this holiday season for the popular Yew Dell Gardens Express – a fabulous snow village and model train display. This magical exhibit has been created by master model builder Bob Irmscher with support from some of the most talented model train enthusiasts in the region. In addition to the trains, kids of all ages will enjoy scavenger hunts, visits from Santa on December 1 & 8 and more! Bring your cameras!
