    Hats! Reflections in Time showcases more than refurbished 50 hats from the museum's permanent collection. The hats date from the late 1800s to the 1980s, when Byck's was the fashion-forward boutique presenting trunk shows of famous designers. The store donated more than 22,000 fashion items, including the hats, when the last locations closed in 1991.

    What: Be a glass artist for a day this fall and create your own blown-glass pumpkin at Flame Run Glass Studio and Gallery. Flame Run artists will be assisting guests with the creation of glass pumpkins on Fridays and Saturdays, October 6 - November 17 from 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and by appointment. Participants can choose up to three colors from eight color selections. Each finished pumpkin is about the size of a softball. The experience takes about 20 minutes and costs $50 per pumpkin. Freshly blown glass pumpkins need to cool for a few days before they can be safely handled and brought home. Additionally, guests can purchase previously-made Flame Run glass pumpkins available in a variety of sizes.

The skating rink will operate Nov. 23 to Dec. 28.

    What: Hello Neighbor: A Day of Dignity, A Day of Compassion
    This community celebration will feature international food, community resources, health services, family activities and live entertainment. Muhammad Ali Center exhibits will be free and open to the public between 11:00am and 6:00pm for this event. However, in the spirit of giving, visitors are asked to bring a donated item to benefit Kentucky Refugee Ministries in place of paying for admission. Specific items needed most are blankets, shower curtains, alarm clocks, can openers, and towels or wash cloths.
    Starting at 4:00 pm, local entrants from the online Generation Ali Video Contest, along with winner Ali Nourbakhsh of Lakewood, CA, will entertain guests with their creative talents, focused on the theme of giving. Nourbakhsh is associated with an organization called Rachel’s Challenge whose programs equip students and adults to “combat bullying and feelings of isolation and despair by creating a culture of kindness and compassion.”

    For its 32nd year, the city’s annual celebration launching the holiday season is expanding and moving to 4th Street, creating a four-block festival of lights set to music between the Galt House and Fourth Street Live.
    Light Up Louisville begins the day after Thanksgiving (Friday, Nov. 23), with the arrival of Santa Claus who will help illuminate downtown Louisville, followed by fireworks – all centered at new locations – starting from 4th and Main Streets all the way to Fourth Street Live!
    A new holiday activity that people will enjoy, is the addition of a ice skating rink in the heart of Fourth Street Live!. The rink will use a synthetic ice which will ensure its availability throughout the holidays even if outdoor temperatures stay above freezing.
    Other Light Up Louisville activities include the Run, Run Rudolph 5K race, which starts on 4th just south of Main. Participants will receive a long sleeve T-shirt. In addition, to the annual Winter Wonderland Holiday Parade. Parade units will be decorated in festive lights and will include bands, carolers, car clubs, floats, children’s groups and civic organizations.     On our journey to the North Pole you will enjoy an approximate 1 hour train excursion while listening to the sounds of the season. Upon arriving at the North Pole we will pick up Santa; Santa will then board the train and travel with us on our way back to New Haven. Hot chocolate and cookies will be served. Children are encouraged to wear their pajamas. Make sure and bring your camera. Upon arriving back at the station you will have the opportunity to come in to the depot and take your child's photo with Santa. Don't forget your camera!
