    What: Modern in the Making: Design 1900-2000 - Over the past few years, the Speed’s collection of twentieth-century design—furniture, ceramics, silver, and other materials—has grown rapidly through both gifts and purchases. These objects, many on view for the first time, will be featured in a new installation, Modern in the Making: Design 1900-2000. From French Art Deco to the Bauhaus to mid-century Modern to Post-Modern, the installation will explore the diverse definitions of “modern” that marked the twentieth-century.

    What: Louisville and the Peace Corps: Celebrating 50 Years of Louisvillians Serving the World. A new exhibit at the Louisville Free Public Library explores the rich history of the Peace Corps through the stories, photos, and memorabilia of Louisvillians who have served. Louisville and the Peace Corps celebrates these local volunteers, whose service spans five decades in countries all around the globe.

    What: First Friday Homeschool Program - “Museum Careers” - Many different roles and talents are needed to run a successful museum. Don’t miss your opportunity to go behind the scenes and learn about the different departments and inner-workings of the Frazier Museum. Students will receive a guided tour of areas in the museum that are not available to the general public. At each stop they will meet a staff person to learn more about their position at the museum. This experience will be an eye-opener to the many different career opportunities available at museums.

    What: Family Volunteer Day - Bernheim’s first Family Volunteer Day is designed for families to work together and appropriate for all age groups. Families start by hearing a bit about the many projects we will be offering, then decide in which one(s) they would like to participate. Each project will be designed for you to either stay for the duration or spend a part of your time engaging in multiple projects. Examples of available opportunities will include planting trees, painting new and existing structures, mulching, transplanting seeds to our Children’s Play Garden,and collecting natural items for use in future art projects, including the Faerie Dwellings at BloomFest.
