What: A Social History of Bourbon - Enjoy bourbon cocktails mixed by Joy Perrine and a talk on Gerald Carson's The Social History of Bourbon by The Filson's bourbon historian, Michael Veach. Veach, who wrote the foreword for Carson's recently reprinted classic, will discuss the book's exploration of bourbon's impact on America's early development. Kentucky's iconic spirit played a pivotal role in some of the more dramatic events in American history, including the Whiskey Rebellion, the scandals of the Whiskey Ring, and the "whiskey forts" of the fur trade. Veach will also speak on the story of the saloon and the drive to close down this uniquely American institution.
